A New Jersey warehouse business, built one account at a time
Larry Mangels bought a half-empty 40,000 sq ft building in Union City in 2014 with two forklifts and one customer. Twelve years later the same phone number still reaches the same office.
How it started
Larry Mangels spent eleven years managing inbound freight for a housewares importer in Carlstadt before starting Qazitex. The frustration that pushed him out was simple: the 3PLs he hired were excellent at selling and mediocre at answering questions once the pallets landed.
The first Qazitex customer was a two-person lighting distributor that needed 60 pallet positions and someone who would pick up the phone after 5 PM. That account is still with us. It set the operating rule we have never moved off: every client gets a person, not a portal.
How it runs today
We occupy 118,000 sq ft across two connected buildings on Lakewood Drive with 46 dock doors, a gated yard and 27 full-time employees — no temp-agency churn on the pick line. Roughly 60% of our volume is inventory storage and outbound fulfillment; the remainder is cross-dock and regional trucking.
We are deliberately not the cheapest option in Hudson County. We are the one whose invoices match the quote, whose cycle counts are emailed whether or not there is a variance, and whose owner will still walk your freight himself if the week goes sideways.
What we will not do
We do not store bulk flammables, explosives, controlled substances, live animals or ambient perishable food. We do not accept accounts that require us to misdeclare freight class or falsify a bill of lading. We would rather lose the business than lose the operating authority of the carriers we depend on.
